Travel to the Vet

My poor dog was curled up in her carrier whimpering and no one was around to ask how long it was going to take for the vet to see her. Finally, after about 20 minutes of waiting, a technician came out and asked us to fill out some paperwork. The vet took Roxanne back to examine her and returned a few moments later with the news that Roxanne had gastroenteritis. What is that? It’s an inflammation of the bowels and causes all sorts of mayhem. The vet informed us she needed IV fluids and must be kept overnight. She would eventually be alright, but would need to receive antibiotics and fluids overnight to replenish what she had lost. WHEW! I was so relieved that she wasn’t seriously ill. Relieved that is until we got the estimate of how much this little visit was going to cost us. Since this was an emergency after hours visit and since they were going to keep her overnight, the bill was $522.00 total. There went our trip to Chicago. I am grateful that my dog is okay and that it didn’t cost our life savings to get her well, but I am disappointed we aren’t going to get a vacation this year. Like I said every year it’s something…
