Tragedy at our doorstep

Generally, my husband and I lead a quiet life. One day is very much like the other. But do not think that we feel bored or listless because of the sameness of our days. We have our own set of activities. We boggle on line and that is a great time for us. It gives us a chance a bit of friendly squabbling or gloating over our success. This routine was a little bit upset yesterday because of a tragedy that happened. Here is the sad story. We have pots of asparagus hanging from our front porch. A pair of bulbuls had chosen one of them to build their nest in. We have had bulbuls nesting in our climbers last year and the year before but they had always ended disastrously for the birds. Either the cat got to the eggs or ants invaded the nest. This time, the bulbuls seemed to have made a good choice for their nesting site. The hanging pot was too high for cats or ants to get at the nest. We were thrilled to watch the pair busy at their nest building. I stopped watering the plant for fear of disturbing the birds. We did not even try to peek at how they were getting on. To our delight, we soon spotted the birds bringing worms and insects. The eggs must have hatched!
