Entertainment Meets Social Responsibility
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, if your food and shelter needs are not met, you won’t be able to accomplish much else. This makes decent, affordable housing a baseline necessity for every individual and family. That’s why I am committed to Habitat for Humanity and other charities that offer hope for adequate food, water and shelter. Home Makeover, Extreme Edition offers stories week-by-week of building utterly suitable homes for families the producers find deserving. “Deserving” may arise from unsafe, deplorable conditions or from the social efforts and contributions of the residents whose homes will be demolished to start again. Community involvement meets big name endorsements and a famous design team. Every episode has its unique twists because the families and the designs are unique. The show does its best to offer connections for community responsibility, and it showcases some important causes and local heroes. “Move that bus!” is a simple, optimistic, hopeful cheer that can reveal humanity at its best as well as a fascinating or beautiful new home.
